As we grow older, it becomes important to maintain clothes, especially if some pieces were expensive, or if you like them so much and you want to enjoy them as long as possible. So, that is why we decided to make a list of tips to help you care for your favorite clothing items.
Washing your clothes
The first tips are about washing, which is something you have to do. A good idea is to not wash too often, especially jeans or pants which cost more than shirts usually, and the color can easily get washed off. When you put your clothes in the washing machine, turn them inside out, and try using a detergent that is specifically made for black, colored, or white pieces. Once you get the clothes out, try to let them air dry, if possible, because certain fabrics can shrink in the dryer, and your clothes can easily get the worn-down look. You can also get mesh bags, where you can put all your delicates, so they don’t get ruined in the washer. This goes especially for bras since the underwires can easily poke through.
Taking care of your shoes
Shoes are one item you should invest in, without feeling sorry. And with proper maintenance, they will last a long time. Proper and quality shoe care includes spraying them or polishing the leather pairs you have. Always add a shoe cream that is going to keep the leather looking nice and soft, and it won’t break and create cracks. Go to your cobbler and replace your soles while they are not too damaged. If you spend a lot of time in your shoes, or you want to freshen up your sports shoes, try putting baking soda in it and leave it for a day, because it will take the odor out. If you can, alternate between pairs as much as you can, because that will keep them looking good and new for a longer time. And another thing that should be a given, use every shoe according to its purpose. So, don’t run in your oxford shoes, even if it is for a second, learn how to walk in heels so that you don’t twist and break them, and always untie your shoelaces and then take the shoes off.
Additional care tips
Caring for your clothes includes everyday care like keeping them clean from your makeup, not overcrowding your wardrobe, and learning how to do small repairs so you don’t throw away good clothes over small imperfections. The best way to store your clothes is to hang them because they will not get wrinkles, and if you don’t use them for some time, they will not get the lines where they were folded. However, if you can’t hang all your clothes, make sure your jackets at least are. Pay attention to how you hang your sweaters since they can stretch easily. As for the leather items, make sure not to get them wet often. If the leather does gets dirty, have it dry cleaned since they have the proper detergents and softeners. Don’t keep your clothes in the sun for too long, since the color can fade, and make sure you hand wash those that have something printed on them. Always follow the labels on the clothes about the what temperature to use, and how to wash them. Clean your clothes as soon as you notice a stain because the longer it sits there, the harder it will be. However, try not to use bleaches, rather have your clothes dry cleaned.
In order to keep your clothes for a long time, the most important thing is to follow the instructions marked on the labels, and care for them according to the fabric. Don’t think it’s a waste of money to buy products for softer leather, or anything similar, because that is what will keep your favorite pieces in your wardrobe for a long time.
