YRSA DALEY-WARD

Yrsa Daley-Ward is a writer and poet of mixed West Indian and West African heritage.

MATATU Festival of Stories invites you to one special evening with poet, writer, and actress Yrsa Daley-Ward. In this workshop performance, Yrsa shares her works in progress, and offer tools for attendees to document their own spectacular stories.

Yrsa Daley-Ward is a model, actor and writer of mixed West Indian and West African heritage. Born to a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father, Yrsa was raised by her devout Seventh Day Adventist grandparents in the small town of Chorley in the North of England. Yrsa interweaves experience with each influence to fuse poetry with theatre, music and storytelling. She travels a lot grasping for that illusive thing known as Good Mental Health. Food makes her happy. Very very. Otherwise extraordinary, she is also known for two published collections of stories: On Snakes and Other Stories, as well as Bone.

plays in concert with TRIÂNGULO DOURADO

At the edge of Paris, where the rivers of the Seine and Marne meet, Sheylla shares memories, encounters and feelings from the journeys that have brought her here. We can see that she's preparing to leave again, but which path should she choose when she can go in any direction?

The Golden Triangle [Triângulo Dourado] is composed from homegrown, handmade, slightly fragile elements. With a bike, a 16mm camera, a poem in my mind and a cast of non-professional actors, I've tried to say something about travel, love, loneliness and the distances that link them.
